Monthly Devotional - July
When the 4th
of July comes around what do you think about?
Is it just another holiday that our government threw in?
A day off from work?
Maybe throwing a big party and shooting off fireworks?
Camping? Would you
think of your freedom as you go camping on your days off?
Would you think of the men who gave their lives as you throw your
parties and shoot off fireworks?
Would you think of your liberty at all?
Like Memorial Day, Independence Day is a time to remember the men
who gave us liberty. Praise
God for them. Did you know
that we had liberty before 1776?
Long before this
great nation was established on this planet, liberty was a gift from
God. Unlike the rest of
God’s creatures, humans who were made in the divine image of our
Creator. We were set loose
in the world with a wide range of freedom.
We might have been bound to our Creator as the grass is to the
earth or as a dog is to his chain.
A mother and her child are bound together by the umbilical cord.
God saw it was best for the cord to be cut.
Our tie to God was not to be a chain or a cage but the bond of
love. A bond of absolute
trust. From the beginning, the
relationship between God and humans existed in freedom and was based on
trust.
God gave us freedom.
We gave that freedom up.
We search for ways to lose our freedom.
We risk our freedom by being disobedient to God.
We risk our freedom by loving the world and not the One who made
it. We are trapped under the
bondage of sin. The chains
that our God would not put on us we willingly accept in our bondage of
sin. But praise and glory be
to our God who gave us a key to unlock the chains and the cages that we
are in! That key is Jesus
Christ! We are free from the
bondage of sin. Thank you Jesus
for loving us. We deserve to
be in cages like zoo animals.
Jesus thinks otherwise.
Blessings
